FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I LET YOU KNOW IF MY CHILD HAS WORK TO DO?

Every child is sent home with a little red book which we write in and encourage you to write in too. We aim to have good communication with parents and you can write to us to let us know any new information about your child, or if you would like us to do any extra work, including reading, homework or extra catch up support.

WILL YOU MAKE MY CHILD DO HOMEWORK OR EXTRA SCHOOL WORK?

NO! Whether or not your child does extra school work or homework with us at Kids Extra is completely up to you! Most children at Kids Extra only partake in our wide selection of independent learning and play. We have a wide range of resources that are clearly labelled and easy to access for all children. The children are encouraged to select, play with and tidy up their own resources. This includes – Lego, coding sets, Barbies/dolls, Hama beads, jewellery making, arts of crafts, marble run, board/card games, science work sets and so much more! They also have the choice to play outside in the playground with balls, in Grace’s Garden, the trim trail and the exercise equipment.

SAM IS A QUALIFIED TEACHER… WHAT IS SAM’S TEACHING EXPERIENCE?

I completed my degree in Primary Education (with Science specialism) in 2010. My first teaching position as a newly qualified teacher was at a school in Capel – Scott-Broadwood CofE Infant School. For the first 2 years of my teaching career I taught a mixed class of Reception and Year 1 children - so right from the start I have worked with children at varying levels and working from completely different curriculums.

After that I taught a mixed class of Year 1 and Year 2 children for a total of 4 years until I had my first child. Whilst working at Scott-Broadwood I was also in charge of IT, Science, History and Geography.

Since having my children, I have really enjoyed working for Surrey Supply Ltd doing supply teaching throughout Surrey and across Key Stage 1 and 2.

Throughout my teaching experience I have also worked very closely with a number of children with special educational and behavioural needs.

But…

It’s not just me (Sam) with teaching experience! Lisa Chapman is a very well qualified Early Years teacher who is currently a Teaching Assistant in Reception. This is great for any of our little ones as they have a familiar face when they first start coming to Kids Extra!

As well as Mrs Chapman, Miss Singh, Mrs Crouzet and Mrs Nichols are all teaching support staff at St Peter’s! So, whoever is doing work with your child, you know it is of the same high quality that St. Peter’s provide and expect.

IS KIDS EXTRA A LARGER CORPORATE CLUB BROUGHT IN FROM OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL?

NO! Definitely not! Kids Extra was started by Ellie and I (Sam) as 2 mums who wanted to provide the type of childcare we need as parents. Both our mums work in the school and I myself went to St. Peter’s as a child (Mr McKenzie was my teacher in Year 6!). I also completed my very first school work experience at the school and since having children I have also done supply teaching at St. Peter’s.
We’ve started Kids Extra from the ground up at St. Peter’s – which is obviously very close to both of our hearts!
